Timed to National Payroll Week, the IRS is reminding every worker to do a paycheck checkup — reviewing whether the right amount of federal income tax is being withheld from each paycheck.
Life changes drive withholding mismatches: a new job, a raise, marriage, a new child, or picking up side gig income can all leave your W-4 out of date. The result is either an unwelcome balance due in April or an interest-free loan to the government via over-withholding.
The fix takes about ten minutes: use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator, then submit an updated Form W-4 to your employer if needed. Early fall is ideal timing — there's still enough of the year left for adjusted withholding to course-correct.
